Freedom, the journey of brave explorers of Sahara is the theme for Julien Fournié Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

Julien Fournié presented his latest couture collection titled “First Initiation” on January 27, 2015 at Palais des Beaux-Arts, Salle Melpomène 13, Quai Malaquais Paris (6ème). The Julien Fournié Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2015 is inspired by explorers of freedom, most notably ladies who explored the Sahara in the 19th century, such as Alexandrine Tinne.

From the first until the last outfits presented, it’s like watching a worldwide journey packaged in a runway presentation. The luxurious silhouettes are mixes of different cultures, and the color palette of ivory, henna, sand or red amber, turquoise (sampled from Eugene Delacroix’s sketchbooks) elevates the vividness of the journey. The show notes expressed this best: “…A motif woven in silk brings to mind ruins in shades of grey, a print conjures the ancient Egyptian scarab, and intarsia pays homage to the aesthetics of Sufi calligraphy.”

Despite the crescendo of the women explorers’ “First Initiation” journey throughout the runway that concluded on the futuristic goddess look in pale gold sequins and Heliopolis-inspired river of beads and a matching bakelite headpiece, the clear star of this Julien Fournié Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2015 is the colorful burnous adorned with gold hot pants underneath. Regardless, the amount of work poured into this voyage of a collection is astounding. The draped coats, bias-cut dresses, princess gowns adorned with beaded body harnesses in coral and turquoise, dove-hued rhinestones, silver and ebony Tuareg fibulae, are mesmerizing. They draw you in, one look after another, until you realized you’re under a fashion spell of a worldly journey when you wake up at the end.
