Every bride (or bride-to-be) that have dealt with petticoats can immediately recognize that shape when browsing through Australian-based designer Bowie Wong’s latest collection. However, perhaps the unique way Mr. Wong places and shapes the overall silhouette using ivory and black crinoline petticoats brings fresh perspective of this usually-delegated-to-undergarment materials.
Not only these crinolines are thrusted on the forefront, but the setting in which they are presented is special. Following his debut at Paris Haute Couture Week in 2014, he followed up with his Fall/Winter 2015 collection, titled “Metamorphosis” shown at The Peninsula Hotel (19 Avenue Kléber, 75116 Paris) as part of Paris Haute Couture Week on July 8, 2015.
“Metamorphosis” is a delicate collection, inspired by the cicadas. Their shells transformed into hair accessories, lace and tulles overlaying each other, elegant contours and sleeves spring forth a fantasy. All of the sudden, the perspective of crinolines is transformed to become crucial medium of telling a fairytale. And that in itself, is a great metamorphosis of the mind.
