One of my favorite designers of all time, Ilja Visser showed her newest collection on July 5, 2015 during Paris Haute Couture Week. Her Fall/Winter 20115 collection is titled Ingenium Existere (‘Ingenium’ means engineering, ‘existere’ means existence) and it was shown in the garden of the Residence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Unsurprisingly, I want most of the pieces of Ms. Visser’s Ingenium Existere collection. Always a master of infusing feashionable into geometric shapes, she makes such technical shapes, configurations, and logic of engineering so sexy. That something so technical can look so emotionally appealing is so intriguing.
Ilja Visser chooses to engineer her couture as a mix of nostalgic techniques, poetic silhouettes, and the nonchalant attitude of Amsterdam, its hometown. The inspiration comes from 90s denim look with cargo-pants, oversized jackets and baggy dungarees, as well as the Dior’s 1947 New Look. This translates to clean-cut panels constructed with strong feminine attitude are brought into existence with vibrant, transparent, and dreamy colors of deep azurite blues, rose quarts pinks, onyx blacks, tiger-eye copper browns, and chrome silver grays.
My favorite piece is the sculpted duchesse denim-inspired jumpsuit, but I LOVE the overall sharp angular silhouettes and folded panels in bright jacquards. If this is the outfits for our future Metropolis, I’m all in.
