I got three new garments to add to my wardrobe, thanks to Koko Yamase’s Kakkoii Couture Remake book*! Now I have a balloon sweater, a draped sweatshirt blouse, and a patched blouse made from a men’s shirt!

This is another DIY fashion project based on Cut-Up Couture: Edgy Upcycled Garments to Sew book. Once again, thank you Koko Yamase for pushing me into reconstructing these men’s sweaters and dress shirts even though I’m lazy :)

It’s my first time doing sewing projects like this, so of course the results are not perfect. Nevertheless, I’m so happy when each of them came out as I expected. The feeling of glee when I held them up for final inspection is really something to remember.

All of the men’s sweaters (brown and black) and men’s dress shirt are from thrift stores, and I’m so thrilled to make these happened. Now I’m in the process of making (at least) 2 more using guides from the very same book! I’m so loving this Koko Yamase book. I’m telling you: get one. Especially if you’re curious about fashion but much lazier than full-time fashion designers. I get nothing from promoting this book but who cares. I. LOVE. THIS. BOOK. It will be on my go-to book shelve for a long, long time.

So these are the results of what I made! TA-DAAAH!!

A balloon sweater

From page 17 and 18. I was intimidated when I first saw the pictures, but the reality was thankfully wasn’t as bad as I thought. The project went on quite smoothly. Thank God.

A draped sweatshirt blouse

From page 8 and 10. It’s pretty much cutting the sleeves off of a black oversized sweater, gather and sew the bottom half of the center front. That’s it! I have to try leaping while wearing it, obviously.

A patched blouse made from a men’s shirt

From page 60 and 62. Ack! Elastic cuffs! But once again, my fear was unfounded since the process went pretty smoothly. This project is great for a sewing beginner like me!

What do you think? My hair was pretty crazy during the photoshoot (plus I was sleepy as heck), but the garments look decent, no?

Have a great weekend,
Musank

*Disclaimer: I bought the Japanese version of Koko Yamase book “Kakkoii Couture Remake.” Therefore, the page numbering I mentioned above is according to the Japanese book. The numbering might be different with the English version of the book, titled “Cut-Up Couture: Edgy Upcycled Garments to Sew.”
