This tetrahedron bag (or pyramid bag for some) complete with a strap was made with fabric remnants from DIY Fabric Collage Shoes. It looks cute yet big and sturdy enough to fit a large smartphone inside.
Right after I was done with DIY Fabric Collage Shoes, excess fabric remnants were scattered on my desk. Since I was still collecting ideas for Collage study for my Foundations of Textile class, it made sense to continue with making a fabric collage tetrahedron bag.
It’s a relatively quick project, thanks to this Pyramid Pouch tutorial. The key point is to have a rectangular fabric, its length twice its width. When it’s done, the tetrahedron bag looks so cute! And it’s big enough to carry a smartphone inside, so that’s always a plus.

List of Materials:
- remnants from DIY Fabric Collage Shoes as main fabric
- printed cotton fabric for bag and strap linings (10″ x 20”)
- 8″ zipper
- lobster clasp and D-ring
- sewing machine
- needle and thread for sewing machine
Process:
This bag was put together quite quickly using a tutorial I found on another blog (noted below). The process can be summarized in three steps:
First, the remaining layered fabric pieces are pieced together to form a 10″ x 20″ piece. Once the composition is final, the pieces were sewed with a sewing machine.
Next, using the fabric piece, printed cotton fabric lining, zipper, and this pyramid pouch sewing tutorial, I made a fabric collage tetrahedron bag. I also attached a D-ring to the bag’s tag.
After the bag was done, I made a bag strap from remnants of the fabric collage and lining, along with a lobster clasp.
The Result: Fabric Collage Tetrahedron Bag
It’s so interesting to see the irregular lines of the fabric collage on all sides of this bag. Just like its matching pair of fabric collage shoes, this tetrahedron bag looks fresh and playful. It also has a “quilt” look kind of quality, which was unexpected. Still, it’s looking good and I’m glad I could finally cross off my sewing wish list of making a tetrahedron bag!
