Danish fashion designer Anne Sofie Madsen presented her Spring/Summer 2015 collection during her first appearance at Paris Fashion Week.
Let’s go straight to the point: I love this collection. Anne Sofie Madsen’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection has the perfect blend of creativity, innovation, modernism, sleekness, and fantasy. The brand’s vision, a wish to “show the well-known through the un-known and to use traditional handcraft methods and couture techniques within ready-to-wear,” provides the execution fundamentals. Moreover, the collection’s theme of being both intimate and revealed completes the “Coming Undone” feeling.
The fashion show was held on September 26, 2014 at Danish Ambassador’s Residence (60 Avenue Foch, 75116 Paris) and it marked Sofie Madsen’s first Paris Fashion Week appearance. Before that, she debuted her couture-inspired collection in 2010 during London Fashion Week, and she had worked for Alexander McQueen and John Galliano for Dior to hone her craft.
Perhaps “juxtaposition” is one of the most used words to describe a fashion collection’s theme, however many fell short of expectation during their executions. Not so with Ms. Madsen’s SS15 collection. The silhouettes, inspired by “cybernetic organisms that embrace both organic and technologic components” have equal parts of nostalgia and futurism on a first glance. When observed more, the garments expressed complex mixture of lightness and strength in how the leather, linen, hand-painted silk, and mink fur were shaped, molded, and placed. I also loved that Anne Sofie Madsen SS15 incorporated devoré techniques, quilting, ruffles, and smocking made on a 1950’s domestic machine, all to create a deteriorating feminine silhouette.
